R53 Trip Computer Upgrade?

  1. Does anyone know if you can upgrade to a trip computer by just fitting the rev counter & the indicator stalk? Is the rest of the wiring & required parts fitted into the car as standard???

    Thanks,

    Mike.

you need the stalk, the upgraded rev counter, a control box and the ecu needs to be told it now has the new kit… most of the other mini sites quote bmw at £197 , but you could always stop racing round those back lanes on the way home from work…… and droping one wheel into the dirt….:D:D

  3. There are [URL='http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/OBC.PDF'%5Dinstructions%5B/URL%5D for retrofitting the OEM on-board computer (OBC), which involve replacing the turn-indicator and high-low-beam stalk with one containing a button for cycling through the OBC displays.

Here is an alternative approach, using an aftermarket OBC control button next to the side-mirror adjustment control, which is easier to install and cheaper. Cost approx £10 to fit! This compares to the £100+ in parts (2003 prices) for the OEM approach. The instructions for this low-cost approach can be found [URL='http://www.mini2.com/pdf/onboard_computer.pdf'%5D%5BCOLOR=orange%5Dhere%5B/COLOR%5D%5B/URL%5D.

    Not tried this myself! 🙂

  4. So Andy, what's wrong with kickin' up the dust? I was trying to avoid the loon coming the other way in 56 plate S:D

mab01, thanks for the links. I was mainly interested in finding the fuel consumption…….probably not a good idea:eek:

  5. Could you not fit parts from a scrap car? Plenty of people breaking them these days. Surely a good second hand stalk and computer would work just as well?

if you can find a car with all the bitas already fitted most cars get broken before you get them…

  7. These are useful MINI breakers to try if you can't find the parts needed on ebay:
