Xenon Headlight not working

  1. Hi I am new to this forum but am hoping someone may help!
My daughter's 2003 Mini copper has Xenon headlights the passenger's dip beam will not work. I have swapped the driver side bulb and I believe it's called the ballast resister attached to the back of the headlight over and both work OK on the drivers side, but the passengers side still will not work. Can anyone tell me what next to try? Thanks Eddie

  2. Checking the fuse would be the next obvious test. In general most modern cars have a separate fuse for the left and right headlights.

I would also unplug the headlight unit and check to see if voltage is actually getting to it.

  3. Get a test lead and check you're actually getting power through to the headlight. It may be a broken wire or something. If you're getting power to the headlight then you know the fault is in the actual light unit.

  4. Not too familiar with Xenon lights but if power is ok you can maybe try swapping over bulbs from each side as in conventional system?

I found some Xenon info on Mini2 which may help:
Swap bulbs across first to check
    If still fails
    Swap the ballasts

Thanks for the info I have tried the FL 12 and FL8 fuse in main engine bay fuse box changed them over but passenger dip beam will not work, side and main OK. Unsure if to strip headlight to see what's in there.

Any other things it could be

    Thanks for your help Eddie

  7. Xenon Head Light

Thank you for all your help and advice. In the end I purchased a replacement light off Ebay £50.00 complete with bulbs, so daugther's back on the road. I will try to strip the ligth and hopefully locate the fault!
    Thanks again Eddie

  8. For £50 you can't go wrong really, a replacement bulb will set you back about £30+, now you have a spare one too. Not sure i'd bother trying to fix the old one, unless it was something to satisfy your curiosity.

Thank's for coming back though, some people post questions then never bother coming back to let us know what the fault was!
