  1. What's it?

    I'm guessing a 62 Cooper 997 built between April-July 1962?????

A friend just got it and had no idea what it was. Not sure if he has a registration for it, or not. I may go look at it. I'm encouraging him to keep it original and not tart it up.

Silver/grey (not sure if it is brocade)

    Disc brakes

I hope to go see it by Saturday. Sooner, if possible.

You will strugle to find a 997 engine (unless you have it?) and to be honest they weren't that good anyway. Look out for an MG1100 engine (early Austin America ADO16 type). These used the 998 Cooper type block, a much stronger crank, non pinch bolt type rods and a superb Formula Junior inspired head, the 12G295. BMC quoted both the 997 Cooper and the MG1100 at 55 bhp but the MG unit is a lot more powerful. Parts like pistons etc are available new and a well built MG1100 engine is a very nice unit for a Mini. Best of all it will look 99% original.

Saw it last night. Not too bad. Needs full floors and a rear seat bottom replacement. Funny , all other panels are original including the sills are in relatively good shape. He doesn't know what motor is available for it. He'll be collecting a garage full of parts to sort through. It'll be fun to help him sort it out. I'll be pointing him here for the expert advice. 😎
