The spacers are fitted at the front only to suit the thicker insulation felt fitted underthe carpets. The front feltwas around 3/4' thick the rear around 3/8'thick originally.
I had noticed that the studs on the floor of my S for the front carpet were raised with a spacer.
I assumed it was a metal spacer, as someone has painted over mine. but i went to see a v.original 997 the other day, and it has plastic spacers on the front studs only, the rear ones are flush with the floor, anyone come across this before, and why would they have fitted this spacer to the front ones only?

Interesting – all our NZ assembled 850s have the same felt front and rear.
