Looks like I'm bringing the youngest car there – the '93 W&P British Open.

Be good to see him. I've no problem with the BINI and it would definitely give non members the full range of the club.

4. I'm getting all giddy about Oulton already!

Who on here is going, and what are you bringing with you?

I'll be there with my Cherry red 1071 Historic Racer, please say hello if you see me about.

Thanks to Pete for organising such an impressive display.

I agree it is a 'classic' race meeting but the fact that Michael Cooper supported the 'MINI Cooper' race challenge series in its early years should not be overlooked. Our publicity states that 'The Legend Lives On,' many pruchasers of the new MINI have subsequently puchased classic cars. If a new MINI is displayed I support the view that it shows that the MCR supports the Mini Cooper; we should not forget that Don is a very supportive founder member of the MCR and a 'Racer' in his earlier years.

All very true Ciff, but punters don't pay over twenty quid a pieceto get into a historic race meeting to look at carsthey can see in any Sainsburys car park. Just not appropriate for this event.

Taff on the other handlikes to jump the bandwagon every time the new MINI is mentioned, soooooooooooopredictable.

How about on this classic album cover:-

Quite suitable really considering the BINI replacing the legendary Mini and pigs flying coming to mind.

:DDespite being slightly apprehenesive about the welcome I would receive at Oulton Park I was relieved to receive a very warm and genuine 'Northern' welcome. There were 26 fine Classic Mini plus my MINI Cooper D on the Mini Cooper Register stand. There was a lot of interest in the New MINI from the knowledgeable public at the event. Great to see so many friends. Well done Peter for arranging our presence at the event. Thanks Cliff for the words of support.

Can't see this particular topic ever being settled to everyones satisfaction πŸ˜•

Pity that BMW themselves do not embrace the classic Mini community the way that the MCR embraces their car. πŸ™

PS – Gray, I'm not having a dig !!:D

I am pleased you got there Don and had a good time. The pictures on the other thread look good. I think I would have preferred to have been there rather than spend the day clearing our loft of 30 years of 'things which might come in useful' but never did. Still I hope to be there next year.
Well done to Peter for making the event so sussesful.

Hi Andrew, I couldn't agree more, they have alienated alot of potential future customers with what I would call a lack of tact.

Enjoyed the day very much, and we were spoilt rotten with the organisers giving us a paddock of our own to play in ! Big thanks to all that made the effort and brought their cars along, shame it wasn't a little warmer but hey it didn't rain ! 😯

Feel free to post any pics here or send to morris1275@aol.com

Thanks again you lot.

Correct. I get annoyed at the BMW car Club for doing this – I'd turn up in a 1972 CSL, just for some geek to arrive in some 04 plate thing with a few lick and stick bits of tat.

The BMW Mini is not a Mini in any shape or form and the Cooper badge is a neat marketing trick. I don't object to the car – the Cooper itself is a very good car indeed if a little lacking in cetrain areas (legroom for one). But can you see a point where the MCR is 75% BMW Minis and 'the old ones' to make up the numbers? Of course a club needs volume to survive – but I'd rather see the 1275GT officially accepted into the club. It's got far more relevance than the current car.

I agree and did anyone hear the BBC4 interview with Alex Moulton and Lord Snowdon today? The chat was all about Issigonis and the Mini and they were both asked what he'd have thought about the BINI.

I hope the PC brigade weren't listening.

Yup, we've been hijacked by the for and against MINI brigade.

Just to clear this up, I only mentioned the MINI in jest in the first place as I gave priority to the classic Mini at this display at a historic race meeting. If Taff wants to spend the rest of his life grinding away at the very existance of the MINI (yawn..) be a good chap and start your own thread eh ? Meanwhile I've got socks to pair up……………:P
