Nuts n Bolts

  1. I know this topic has come up before, but has anyone deciphered the parts list to get a definitive answer?

Looking at mine, all bolts / sets come with a three letter code i.e HZS then a 4 digit number i.e 0505.

I know the 1st 2 digits are the size of the head, with 05 being 1/2' for example. There are also no 3/8, 5/8, 7/8, so
7/16 is 4, 5/16 is 3 etc. This all matches up, right down to 3/16.

But the lengths are baffling – 05 seems to be 11/16, but then the other sizes dont match with the run of AF sizes, if that makes sense?
    If 05 is 11/16, 3/4 is 06, 25/32 is 07, 13/16 is 08, 1' is 09, then 1 & 3/16 s 10. Yet 10 is 1 & 1/4!

    There are also no 3/8, 5/8, 7/8.

    Any Ideas?

p.s Was a 1/4 sixe head the smallest size used by the factory? IF so then it all works out.

The Moss Europe priced catalogue gives the following guidance based on Triumph cars.
BH means bolt with Hexagon head (Theaded with plain unthreaded shank before head)
SH means screw with Hexagon head (Threaded for full length)
    1st number = thread type, UNF = 6; UNC = 5
    2nd&3rd nos = thread diameter in increments of 1/16'; 04 = 1/4', 5 = 5/16', 10 = 5/8'
    4th&5th nos = length in increments of 1/8'; 04 = 1/2', 16 = 2' and 23 = 2 7/8'
Last no = finish 1 = zinc plated.
Only applicable to bolts & screws. Nuts & washers may follow similar system.

    Hope the above helps.
