Mini Cooper Register
Hello everyone, i shall be embarking on the restoration of my mk1 shell in the not to distant future. The repair concerning me the most is the gutter, in particular the vertical curved part of the gutterwhich is part of body side section, sandwiched between the driprail and roof, has anyone any thoughts/ experience regarding this repair?
My first reaction would be to try and getsome sections from a scrapped car (all the same except really early cars) I suppose it depends how bad it is. Any photos forthcoming ? Matt
Hello Matt, thanks for the reply,i do not have a picture of the offending area, botched it many years ago with a mig, but sticks out like a saw thumb,on the assumption i need toreplace the complete o/s, can i use agutter from a mk3 on?,then fit a new driprail? I spoke with John Kelly and he has suggested the same as yourself, finding a scrap yard? let alone one with a mini will be a task.
Sounds like you need a new roof skin
Try one of the specislist s/h mini spares people. I'm sure they must be breaking later cars from which you could use the gutter. I may be wrong but I think all cars have the same roof. Matt
i had my early car donewith a late model gutter; the only difference is obviously drainage holes.
Thanks for the replies, i think the way forward is to remove the drip rails and let in some donor panels from a later car.
