1. In 1994 the Rover Mini Cooper returned back to International rallying Timo Makinen & Paul Easter entered L66 LBL, back by MINISPARES & Rover Japan in this most prestigious event Rally Monte Carlo. 48 hours before the event L66 LBL was stolen and 2nd car was built L408 AUE.

In 2014 it will be the 20th Anniversary since our beloved Mini returned, with the 2014 approaching I felt it would be a great idea to start a page all about L66 LBL & L408 AUE. Also with this been the 50th Anniversary of our beloved Mini Cooper.

Pics, info anything you have please add and let's build a great page to pay homage to these great men and cars.

Would really appreciate any pics or info you have from 1995 Monte.

Least they finished this time, better than the 37 miles covered on the 1st attempt in 1994 they say L408 AUE had fuel issues.

After some searching on the internet I came accross some pictures of L66LBL which after been stolen was shipped out to japan possibly around late 1994.

As you can see its been turned into a racer, but a lot of the Group A parts are still in place.

Enjoy the pics

26. L66 LBL – The images……..

As you can see L66 LBL is still alive and well in Japan. Its not in bad condition really its shame that its been used as a race car and a lot of parts are missing.

But from the pictures you get a good feel for the work involved in converting a standard Rover Cooper to Group A spec.

Tamiya made a scale replca of L408 AUE which was launched in 1995 in its M01 & M02 Chassis form.

These are now quite hard to get hold off now and have a nice vintage feel to them, they drive very well.

The MO3 Chassis is very good and the M01 Monte Carlo Body is available from Ebay. For around £60

It was recently re-released as X-Built Model I think in M05 Chassis form.

35. My Tamiya MO3

My wife bought Mini a tamiya M03 Racing model along with a M01 Monte Carlo Body.

I had really enjoyed building it and have carried out a number of modifications

To make it more suitable for outdoor use, rather than what they call a carpet racer.

Modifiations:

Up-rated oil filled longer shocks from a touring car chassis
Adjustable chamber from Tamiaya M05 chassis
Up-rated race bearings
Raised suspension
Modified bottom arms and steering joints to suit
Rally block tyres
Up-rated speed control

Just getting use to driving it and having lot of fun.

Further Modifications to a race spec Sport Motor and diff planned soon.

Like a real Mini its very easy to get carried away.

Blown £200 on mine already inc buying kit.

According to the book: LAST WORKS MINIS

Stolen from its trailer.

L66 LBL was loaded onto a trailer behind a brand new Range Rover the day before departure. Paul Tayor one of the mechanics took it home to Hinckley, Leicestershire. At 12am he checked the straps and trailor went to sleep ready for a 4am departure.

Whist asleep L66 LBL was unloaded from the trailor, it was later reported that L66 LBL was seen on the A5 heading towards Nuneaton, with a green Mini Cooper following at around 3.30am.

22nd January 1994

On January 22nd Tom Seal recieved an anonymous telephone call telling him the whereabouts of L66 LBL.

It was found in a remote lane near Mancetter Quarry in Nuneaton.

Just the engine, gearbox and front subframe had been removed, its presumed it was taken to a facility with the equipment to remove the engine.

The police were baffled why the car had not been completely stripped?

37. I do have the book, all sounds a bit vague to me though. Someone should have to answer to this as being responsible. As time passes this will be more important.

38. I dug out my Vitesse model of L408 AUE today. These were released in 1995 so are long sold out, but they do turn up sometimes on Ebay.

L408 AUE or is it…??????

Just fitted a set of Rover Cooper Alloys and my replica really does look like the 1994 Monte Mini.

Its even minus the engine as the real one in Mini Spares showroom.

40. Its does look well

Looking back through the pics of the original cars theres some shoddy work going on.

SO when is it going to come out for a play then
