John Lloyd defiantly owns JBL I sold it to him in 1989 as it was too much work for me and I already had GRX 5 D in my garage. John has done tremendous research and found many of the original parts that were missing when I bought it from an ad in Motoring News.

Hello
Anyone know the story of the HJB656D cooper works after the safary rally?
Best Regards
Hugo
I recall MCR member John Lloyd has owned it for some time but i may/could well be wrong..
It was recorded as having been sold by BMC to Bembros Motors in Nairobi after the event.
However it is listed as having been registered by the DVLA in 1990 but shows no activity (unlicenced) since 1992.
Perhaps it was re-imported? Or re-created?

if it is the car john owns its currently being restored
Found this old photograph of the car…….
I think John owns a JBL car not the ex safari one.:)
It would be very interesting to see what came back from Africa 😀
Do you think it could've been hand baggage?;).
I tend to agree with AMS as I am sure John's car is not the Safari car.
Hjb656d
The car is owned by John Lafferty, a one time member of the MCR and has been in build for a good many years – no relation to John Loyd, wrong John!
