World Cup Rally 50th anniversary

The Historic Marathon Rally Group (HMRG) is organising a reunion and celebration of this iconic rally, 50 years to the day that the competitors left Wembley Stadium on their 16,000 mile adventure through Europe, South and Latin America.

Originally 106 teams entered, with only 96 starting from Wembley and just 23 finished at the Aztec Stadium in Mexico, 6 weeks later. The Ford Escort, FEV 1H of Hannu Mikkola and Gunnar Palm, took first prize.

HMRG would like to make contact with any other club or group with similar interests and to locate a car not yet discovered which took part in a Marathon or similar event 1968 to 1993.

Their aim is to make a worldwide open invitation to any owner, competitor, official or supporter of any Classic Marathon event to join the planned event on 19th April 2020 at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon in Warwickshire.
