I have a small stock of used sealed beam headlights and selected a couple of Lucas branded ones, cleaned them up and fitted them to the pick up. Switched on the lights and the reflectors on both units turned blue and white and stopped working 🙁 I cleaned up another pair, fitted them and they also did the same. 😡

Before I try a third pair, does anyone have any idea why they are doing this? Dad says that it has happened to him where lamps have been unused for some time and presumes its a damp thing.

Any tips on how to avoid this or is it a case of some will be ok and some won't ?

It's where the unit is leaking, the pins of the back corrode and crack the seal around them then let air in. Basically if they leak they're only fit for the bin, sometimes they just fill with smoke, the inert gas they're filled with has gone and they will just burn out very quickly.

So yes some will hopefully be ok, some will only be good for the bin.

Thanks for the quick reply Hawaiian. 🙂

I'll try the last pair tomorrow and keeps my fingers crossed then.
