Ok gang, the time is drawing nearer to me getting the all important mini!

I have found a suitable car, but it has the rover cassette player - fitted as standard to the last of the line cars. Whilst this isn't a bad thing, I am aiming to replace it with an official rover mini cd player.

Any advice on how to remove the stereo unit in such a way that it doesn't damage it, and also to replace it and fit the rover mini cd player would be helpful.

Both the cassette player and cd player are genuine rover/ blaupunkt jobbies.

I know that there are the two screw cap covers on each side of the units, but looking at the screw arrangements down the side of the cd player, it looks a bit complex :s

Like I say, any advice and or guidance would be helpful

Thanks, Chris

It depends on the age, early to mid 90's have end covers, mid to late 90's (R600 units) just have holes for the tools to go in.

There should be a cover on each side of the radio. These can be removed with a little screwdriver. Underneath there are two holes, one above the other. The proper tool is U shaped, but you can get away with a bent piece of wire.

Most of the CD's will fit into the same metal cage used by the cassette player. As for the wiring, this may be the same.

Hello Chris,
Just wondering what you did with your regular cassette player? Let me know if your interested in selling. I sent you a PM as well.
Cheers!

You can buy a special removal tool set for the cassette player. This may be the one:

But, as has already been said, bent wire will probably do the trick just as well.

As I recall (it's been a while!), the Blaupunkt CD unit does not have a cage and the screws simply expand clamps that hold it into the fascia.

As both units are Blaupunkt, you should have no trouble with the harness connection.
