Knuckles - what grease? (6 replies)
Thanks Tony. When you say lithium grease, you mean CV grease?
Thanks again,
Paul
I wouldn't class lithium grease as being used for CV. Normally CV's take a Moly based (dark grey) grease.
Typically something like Castrol LM (which I think is now called Castrol multipurpose grease), Silkolene RG2 or similar should do i.e. a standard wheel bearing grease- reasonably wide operating temperature and more importantly in this case a good moisture resistance.
Sorry of course Castrol LM
Hi all, what grease to the great and the good use for re-packing the suspension knuckles under the cones? Some say, that this is the correct grease

I wonder what is the norm?
I'm not sure about red lithium grease. As there is no heat issue I use an ordinary lithium grease, and of course ensure that the dust cover is pulled over correctly.
Hi all, regarding the best grease to use in knuckle joints.
Many people say ordinary lithium (LM) general prpose grease will do. But as it's a mineral oil based grease, doesn't it damage the rubber dust cover? Or is the rubber not in fact rubber but some sort of material that's immune to the effects of mineral oil based grease?
