Engine Management Relays: Mpi + Spi

Relay for Spi: YWB10022
Relay for Mpi: YWB100970

I know that these have different part numbers but are they interchangeable?
I have been having trouble with my Mpi, with the position 4 30amp fuse blowing quite often. When I replaced the relay and of course the blown fuse all was tickety boo again.
I read in an earlier thread that the relays can reset/repair themselves over time, but I currently find that I have incorrectly purchased a relay that has the Spi part number. Sadly it was also more expensive than the Mpi part!
So are they interchangeable?
Can I fit the Spi relay to my Mpi and will it work?
Will it cause damage to any component - including the Spi relay?

Hi John
I'm not sure you able to mix spi & mpi relays. I had a problem many years ago with multiple failures of 30amp fuses which was identified as chafed wires on the engine management loom by the clutch cylinder.

Thank you,
Problems with the wiring is the likely cause and I have a wiring specialist having a look at the moment.
I'll perhaps see if an Spi user is looking for a spare and indeed brand new relay!

Update.
Wiring was the issue.
Some of the wires in loom between the starter and the EMS were chafed and led to short circuits and fuse failures.
The bare wires were sorted with new insulating tape by the electrician.
Sadly during the ongoing challenges, the battery lost charge and I have had to have the immobiliser reset by a former Rover dealer and replaced the batteries in both fobs. I have installed a new mpi EMS Relay, replaced all fuses in the engine fusebox and everything is tickety boo once again.

I am confidently heading to Mini Fair this weekend.
Fingers are crossed and hopefully the wires won't be!
