Advance notice of a new Region, which will also be publicised in CooperWorld next month. The new Region is called MID STAFFS.
It will meet Monthly, on the First Monday, at the Labour in Vain, Yarnfield, ST15 0NJ, a country pub just 3 miles west of Stone. This new Region should appeal to members living in Stafford, Stoke on Trent, Uttoxeter and Telford areas, all of which are about ½ hour away. Nick Hunter, the Mk2 Cooper S registrar, will be helping.
The first meeting is on Monday 4th July 2011 at 7.30pm, and we will then meet on the first Monday in each month. Minis and MINIs are equally welcome, as are friends with other marques.
At the inaugural meeting an informal Concours is planned, where everyone who attends will be invited to pick the car they would most like to take home, and the car with the most votes will win. The Landlady of the Labour in Vain, Debbie, is kindly providing a supper snack to help us with the launch, so we will move indoors at around 8.15, where everyone will be welcomed to this new region.
To help sustain the success of this new monthly meeting, we are also linking up with the MG Car Club Midland Centre. The world of MG and Mini Cooper is of course linked by the A-Series engine, but more especially by the BMC Competitions Department which occupied part of the MG Factory site at Abingdon. So there will be lots common interest between members of the two clubs.
After the launch, what else will the MID STAFFS region get up to? Over a full year, you can expect quizzes, a Drive it Day organised tour, Talks and visits to interesting places, and maybe the odd raid on neighbouring regions. Although some events may have to be for the MCR or MGCC only, most will be open to all who attend. Best of all, you will be encouraged to use and enjoy your Mini or MINI classic car.
So it's a NEW Region, and the DATE is 4th July. Put in your diary, mobile phone, laptop, I-Pad or whatever you use to remind you of an important date. Just don't miss it!
Please Email or phone me (contact details below) if you are planning to come along to the first meeting – I need to tell the pub how many for supper!
Looking forward to seeing you,
Pete Cresswell

The new MID STAFFS Region got off to a great start last Monday (4th July), with over 50 people attending with 27 cars (and a couple of vintage bikes). Attached below are a few pictures of the evening. The 'car most people would like to take home with them' was won by the Bristol 405. MCR Members included Geoff Doe (Mk2 Cooper S), Tony and Sheila Davis (MINI Cooper), Nick Hunter (Morris 1000 Traveller) and myself (Mk1 Cooper).

The next meeting is on 1st August, and we are going on our first 'Raid' to the Beartown Classic Car meeting at the Swettenham Arms near Congleton. Contact me for details if you would like to join us.

Hopefully the weather will as good as last Monday.

Attached is the MID STAFFS newsletter which provides a report on the inaugural meeting plus information on the next 2 monthly meetings. This has been sent directly to local members (who have an ST Post Code) already.

If you want to join us then please email (or PM) me and I can let you have more details, but note the August 1st visit is dependent on the weather. It is about 45 minutes from Stone to the Swettenham Arms which in pouring rain is probably not worth the journey if only a few of the Beartown Classic Car are there.

The new MID STAFFS Region continues to attact good support, although it would be nice to see a few more Mini (and MINI) Coopers. The last meeting was a talk night, and once again we filled the room. I presented a talk about my life and times in club motorsport, the last part of which has been a growing number of touring assemblies.

Attached is the latest newsletter, giving some details of the next few events. Of particular interest I hope is the Christmas Meal on Monday 5th December, when Will Sparrow and Nigel Raeburn will be our guests. I'm offering tickets to regular natter attendees first, but any surplus I'll offer more generally.

For the 3rd October meeting we'll be having a quiz night. No questions on football, soaps or pop music, but as a hint brush up on the Highway Code!
