Mk3 S Bonnet (4 replies)
Am I right in thinking that this bonnet is not original having brackets for both mk1/2 and mk3 hinges. It is fitted to my 71 mk3 s.
I have a funny feeing in my bones that they were made as a sort of composite/interchangeable bonnet during the MK2/3 changeover. I also seem to recall (although I stand to be corrected here too.....) that my December '69 very late monotone glacier white Mk2 had a dual role bonnet like this as I recall that the 'other' unused hinge point trapped the washer bottle plastic pipe. So when I lifted the bonnet to check it, it worked fine. Put the bonnet down, thinking that it was now OK...... Nope! Trapped again!
I have a December 1967 built Mark 2 which has the same type of bonnet.
Sorry - forget my post above. I suspect the bonnet on the 1967 car is not original as it also has a Mk3 boot lid.
