Replacement Loom Speedo Bulbs.. (6 replies)
Hi; Having received my new wiring looms I note the Speedo bulb hoders are a plastic type to hold what looks to be a push fit type filament? Perhaps these are designed to take the 3 gauge (In front of Steering wheel) type of filaments; can anyone confirm?
Loom looks really neat too... Am sure to have a lot of fun when fitting it...Eventually!
I got a loom for my Mk1 years ago that had the plastic bulb holders....
I took them off and put original old ones on, not that hard.
Those push fit bulbs are known as 504 (3w) or 501 (5w). Available from most motoring shops as they are in use on many modern cars as well as the three clock arrangement.
I believe the bulbs are the same as the ones fitted to the side repeater indicators on late cars. I've just bought some for my new loom, but not got the chance to see if they are correct yet
I believe that if you supply the old type connectors some loom makers will fit them for you in place of the plastic ones.
Think I'll splice in the old Bulb holders... Far to sensible using modern probably more reliable and more readily available filaments! 😎
