From the Ebay description :

'Genuine Cooper S's had a breather pipe on the electric fuel pump which connected to a clip which fitted in a hole in the body under the back seat on the passenger side. The presence of this little hole is usually an indicator of a genuine Cooper S'

That's quite misleading. Just to clarify : all Mk1 Minis and variants apart from the first couple of years had exactly the same set up so it's no indication whatsoever of a Cooper S.

Funny how ? They were found on all Minis, Elf , Hornet, etc of this period. Hence me pointing it out so that the many newbies that read this forum don't think it's a sign of a Cooper S shell when it isn't. A fair call I think.

Still an unusual part to find though, like the plastic captive inserts on the front wings or the plastic clips on the cant rail for swively visors, neither of which were Cooper or S specific parts either.

I found this part of the item description interesting :

'Genuine Cooper S's had a breather pipe on the electric fuel pump which connected to a clip which fitted in a hole in the body under the back seat on the passenger side. The presence of this little hole is usually an indicator of a genuine Cooper S'

This is certainly news to me, as far as I know all Minis of a certain period with SU pumps had these fitted.

breather

Was checking my latest purchase.......a stock never altered MK11 68 cooper.
It has this breather installed.
Thought it was dropped after the MK1 ceased production.
You can just see the inside of the breather under the rear seat panel.

I know this post is years old now but I'm just fitting a new SU electric pump to my '69 Cooper S that I'm restoring. I remember that it originally had the breather pipe fitted. Unfortunately it was lost many years ago, along with the little plastic clip feed through thing that plugs into the car body that the pipe plugs on to. I remember that the plastic clip broke, so I ditched the pipe and clip. That was back in 1986 though. These days I would have been much more careful to retain originality.
