four door rally mini (8 replies)
Thanks for that - glad to know it wasn't a figment of my imagination.
I can't find any photos using WCR 40 or the vehicle reg.
Does anyone have a link for these event photos that shows this illusive mini ?
Pic here, but from the rear it looks like any other mini! http://www.mediastorehouse.com/pictures_1769397/mp_0058990.html
Great.....can just about make out the two lots of door handles !!
The picture I recall was from the front corner and was scanned from an scrappy news paper cutting.

You will find a good picture of it in the WCR 40 souvenir Programme. It was entered by James Conroy.
The programmes are being sold by the organisers on ebay under programmes in motorsport automobilia and cost £5.00.
Can someone help me please !!
I'm convinced that in the dim and distant past, I've seen an old black and white photo in a magazine showing a four door mini that was used for rallying - possibly some sort of safari/desert rally ?
Tried looking on the interweb and no joy.
Can anyone give me link or post a picture, assuming I didn't dream it !!
I think the car you are thinking about was built for the World Cup rally to Mexico. Google 'world cup rally 40' and you should find some more information. I think it retired quite early in the rally.
After a bit more searching on the web I found this picture.
Still not the one I remember, but getting there !!!
There were plenty of photos of this car at the WC40 event a few weeks ago at Gaydon.
I spoke to someone who said the car still exists and is being restored in the Midlands. The sump guard had recently been found.
I think he said the aluminium bodywork was created by ex Bristol coachbuilders in London? He seemed to think the car was still a long way away from being finished.
