Forestry Charges for Special Stages in Wales (3 replies)
Forestry Charges for Special Stages in Wales
For those of you who have any interest in special stage rallying, you should be aware that Natural Resources Wales, who run what used to be the Forestry Commission land there, have failed to agree new rates for using their roads in 2016. This is on the grounds of the costs being greater than the fees that are charged to motor clubs. This puts under threat not only all forest stage events in Wales, it puts Rally Wales GB at risk as well.
Of course the knock-on effect will be enormous. The authorities in Wales have thus far failed to link the enormous economic benefit to Wales of rallying (try booking a hotel room in mid-Wales during Rally Wales GB), plus the large number of businesses in Wales set up to build, prepare and service rally cars, to the relatively small loss that Natural Resources Wales make on rallying. There is a petition to the Welsh Assembly that you are encouraged to sign, if you have any interest in or recollection of Minis, Escorts, Lancia Stratos, Audi Quattros etc etc in the Welsh forests.

Shame its not possible to cancel every event and move them elsewhere (England /Scotland),where its far less expensive.....soon learn no rally's no money....no event no revenue for local business....greedy git's would soon sort everything out....just as they relaxed the over the top policing , when rally GB was going to be cancelled at the last minute...because if accident blackspot cameras were so sorely needed in such large numbers....the roads were too unsafe for competitors their teams and supporters..
Move Rally GB and let the economic fall out speak for its self. Sadly this would also penalise many people who would otherwise benefit from the rally. But maybe the threat would be enough. As said its greed.
