After due consideration, and the recent cancellation of Stamford Hall, due to the on going rise in Corona Virus  cases in Birmingham, Redditch, Northampton and leicester you will not be surprised to hear that we have made the decision to abort the attendance of the Warwickshire region stand at the show. Those that do attend stay safe please

WARWICKSHIRE REGION NEWS

Thank you to everyone who came to the first meeting of 2020 at Caffeine & Machine, our former venue when known as The Houndshill.

There are already a number of activities building up for the summer, so we thought that the best way of letting you know what is happening was through a newsletter. If you like what you see, we will make it a regular feature.

So, in date order, here is what we have got on so far.

PRESCOTT HILL CLIMB – 24/25 MAY

Cliff Porter is a regular visitor to Prescott and he tells us that there will be the La Vie en Bleu meeting at Prescott Hill Climb on this weekend.

The website describes it as “a  weekend celebration of all things French & Italian. An eclectic mix of motor cars spanning the last 100 years plus entertainment off track to keep all the family entertained. Get close and personal to the new Bugatti Divo that will be on track and on show in the Paddock throughout the weekend.”

Cliff says “I think it is Ferraris on the Saturday, so maybe a day out for the Warwickshire region with a display including the Old Chinless wonders – Cliif & Derek with a video presentation of our “Trip of a lifetime to celebrate 50 years of the Italian Job in 2019”.

We might even be able to get Matthew Field and Porterpress International involved (latest book titles for sale).  Blue and red Mini Coopers dressed up with IJ lamp bars wanted!”

CLASSIC VEHICLE DAY – SUNDAY 14 JUNE

In June and September, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway will put on its now famous Classic Vehicle Days at Toddington Railway Station. Public parking is at the usual station car park and the classic cars are displayed in the field to the east side of the railway station.

The June event is primarily for car clubs, although individual participants are welcome. The September event is primarily for individual classic car owners.

More information and booking form can be found at https://www.gwsr.com/Classic_Vehicle_Days_14th_June_and_13th_Sept_2020–post–83.html

NATIONAL METRO & MINI SHOW – SUNDAY 21 JUNE

With the Mini60 celebrations, we were offered a large presence at last year’s show, but this year it will be smaller scale with a free club stand for eight vehicles, which will allow 16 people (2 per car) free entry.

After that, members who wish to attend would have to enter via the vehicle entry form which is £8 admission, but allows 1 car and 2 people in so effectively £4 per person. This is all for entry in advance and on the day prices are £14.50 per person, so well worth booking if you know you will be going..

We have received the club entry forms and would like to hear from anyone who is interested in coming on the stand, together with details of their vehicle so that we can work out how best to present the club. With only eight spaces, we are not likely to be able to fit everyone in, but we can pre-book tickets at the reduced price for those who miss out.

ABINGDON WORKS MOTORSPORT SHOW – SUNDAY 2 AUGUST

Mini Cooper Register is linking up with the Historic Marathon Rally Group and the British Motor Museum for a celebration of BMC/BL Competition Department’s and Special Tuning’s achievements in rallying and racing spanning four decades from the 1950’s to the 1980’s.

The show will bring together as many as possible of all the model types of Ex-Works cars that were prepared by the Abingdon Works at the British Motor Museum’s complex at Gaydon in Warwickshire.

The Museum is already home to three Monte Carlo Rally Mini Coopers, including 33 ELB in which Paddy Hopkirk MBE and Henry Liddon triumphed in 1964.

David Hucker, who is not seeking re-election as the club’s public relations officer at the AGM on 8 March, has been asked by CooperWorld editor Paul Sulma, one of the show’s organisers, to help promote the event and we have also offered the region’s support for any help we can give. To book tickets, go to www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk

We look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting on Wednesday 26 February.

Dates for your Diary 2020.

Dates for your Diary from National Motor Museum re Mini and Metro Show and Abingdon works day.

There will be more events/dates to be forwarded to you.

Hello David,

Great to hear from you and yes you are more than welcome to have a stand at the Metro and Mini show again. For this year’s show the free entry club stand available to you is for 6 vehicles which will allow 12 people ( 2 per car ) free. After that any of your members who wish to attend would have to enter via the vehicle entry form which is £8 admission  but allows 1 car and 2 people in so effectively £4 per person. This is all for entry in advance and on the day prices are £14.50 per person so well worth entering in advance if you fancy coming along to the show for the day. I have attached both forms and you and as a club you are at liberty to give the  free club passes to whoever you wish to in the club provided they attend in an appropriate display vehicle.

Paul is pushing the Abingdon Day and when he first contacted me last year I did not think there was much to go on. However since then we have spoken and he has convinced me that there is potential large interest there so I have agreed to give it a go and see how the day pans out. You don’t know until you try do you? Any help that you can give in pushing this day would be gratefully received.

Bye for now,

Regards, TOM
