998cc cooper race engine will not rev past 5,000 rev and will not rev under load (2 replies)
I am having trouble getting my sons 998cc race engine to run,
1150cc (+60) powermax piston flat top, 4kg flywheel, wedged cross drilled crank, steel rods 530 grams,12g295 ported and polished head,
649 cam, twin 1 1/4" SU carbs E3 needles, blue springs,K+N filters, maniflow LCB and RC 40 exhaust, Aldon 100 AR race dizzy,
have just changed this from a piper one as the advance was to much, Aldon recommended this as i spoke to them,
it will start and run okay, and rev to only 5,000 revs, try to pull away and its not happy boging down we have richend the mixture
no change we have set the jets 1.5 mm down from the bridge as speedpro recommend and the timing is set to 16 degrees at 1400 revs with a strobe, it just does not want to go ???
What is the strobe timing at 4500 revs ? It should be 28-30 degrees. If it isnt, then the dizzy isnt giving you enough advance
Yes thats about what its reading, today have checked carbs pistons and dashpot for travel, etc and they okay, so have put a single 1 1/2 su on and its still the same, I think its the cam timing, or the cam??
