Hampshire region update last of the year.

Hello everyone

This is my last update for the year.  I think we will all be pleased to see the back of 2020 and hope that 2021 will bring far better prospects.

Some of you will have seen on the Hampshire Facebook page that we lost Phil Thompson to cancer a couple of days ago.  Phil had been an MCR member for over 25 years and came to most of our meetings.  He was always on hand at Beaulieu and supported the MCR and made many friends.  There are some particularly good pictures on Facebook, Roz and Dennis have found many of them to remind us of the good times.

Phil had been into minis for quite a while and owned a gloriously modified Downton 999 Cooper S with which he competed in motorsport in the 70s.  He finally won the BARC South Western sprint/hillclimb championship in the late 70s.  He will be much missed.  He leaves a wife, Sue and a daughter Grace.  Our sympathies at this time are with them.

On a brighter note,  Our Beaulieu this year will be celebrating the 60th birthday of the Cooper.  I have already booked the day and sent out a preliminary press release.  I do hope that by the time June comes we will be able to mix freely and enjoy our annual day.

In the meantime please have a good New Year tonight and stay safe in these times.

Best wishes

Tony and Sally.
