Hello all. My 94 Rover Cooper Monte Carlo SPI has failed its Mot ( and retest ) on high carbon monoxide emissions.   Have added Redex and gave it a blast to testing station (5m) and the car runs very well.  Plugs air cleaner etc all good -but it does have a stage 3 head, and its not been on the road for 2 years. Any ideas/help to get it through the test most welcome   - can't take it for a long run as suggested by the garage as no MOT !    Jon

Jon - corroded electrical connectors, they need to be sparkly clean. Especially the earth contact on the -ive terminal on the battery.  Sensor/s will fail with just a tiny drop in the earth. The -ive connection needs to be completely clean (inc. terminal, connector and screw that holds it in) and all connections need to be screwed tight.  I always remember reading years ago that once you have the -ive connection 100% clean to then smear it in Vaseline to keep it from corroding. Then if all else fails replace the senor/s.  I'd have also recommend filling the car with a premium fuel (as they have good cleaning agents in them) and taking it on the nearest road where you can do 60mph and keeping it at 60 for a good 20/30 mins (m'way would be best as you could keep the speed constant and not worry about traffic lights/vehicles turning etc.) as the garage advised, as the premium fuel would clean out the injectors and the engine temp would burn off any carbon deposits.  The MOT center doesn't have a rolling road by any chance that you could borrow for 20 mins ?!? 😉
