Mk1 Cooper getting ready for M2I
Mot passed!! Although not without a slight drama. The condenser that was working perfectly yesterday decided to choose today and a few minutes before the MOT to pack up. Probably a case of me speaking too soon earlier in the thread. But on the plus side it was changed in a couple of minutes.
The clutch needs a bit of adjustment, and a couple of rubbing issues to sort (radiator cowling), plus a bit of running around.
I hope you lot have a great time. hope you all manage without my carfull of spares! Roland&Frank
You will be missed Rolland - as indeed would poor old Frank. I know how much you both enjoyed the last Ireland event, sadly Frank's last.
Well, a lot has happened in the last few days. The gearbox would not select 2nd from 3rd at anything over a crawl, so after much adjusting of the clutch etc the engine and box came back out.
I had inadvertently put the second gear syncro hub in back to front. In my defence the difference is hard to tell and the Haynes book and manuals don't show a difference.
I stripped the box down and corrected the mistake and then refitted the engine, only to find that the previously ok clutch slave was not working correctly.
All sorted now thankfully, and I have completed quite a few miles to make sure. The ultimate test this morning in the pouring rain to work in a major traffic jam. Perfect temperature, crap wipers, misted screen. So all is ok! In fairness once I got going the screen cleared.
Well done Tony. I chapter if disasters which seem to befall all of us to some degree. Glad all is now well and see you Thursday in Fishguard for our weeks trip to Ireland - I'm sure it will tackle the 1300 miles over there with ease.
Yes, looking forward to seeing everyone in Fishguard.
As Robert says we will miss you Roli and especially Frank.
Back from M2I. What a great time.
The Cooper ran well and pulled up the hills beautifully. Oh and the gearbox worked perfectly.
I only took a couple of shots, if anyone has more, please feel free to post them up.
you sure worked hard and looks great.......Oh how I would love another mk1 cooper or S again.........
