OBL48F - colour.jpg (415510 bytes)This picture is supplied by MCR member Nigel Hunter and Nigel says in his message "a photo of myself navigating in ex-works car OBL48F in 1973 - I understand this car is now owned by Norman Grimshaw. The photo was taken on the Yorkshire Moors on the night of 5.5.1973, during the Bramhall Trophy Rally, run by Shipley and District Motor Club. The driver was a chap called John Graham, who had a pair of ex-works cars at the time."

The pictures above and below were supplied by John Hodge, John, who is a friend of MCR member Paul Wilson, has allowed us to make use of these pictures. In his accompanying message John says " I have attached some photos which you may well find of interest - especially the Works car. These photos were taken by me in either January or March 1965 when I was a schoolboy at the tender age of 14. I then lived in Urmston, Manchester and remember going along to a local filling station to see the cars leave on a night rally called "The Shunpiker". This car be read on the original photo on one of the cars. The photo album was discovered by my mother a few months ago when she was having a sort out. I showed the pictures to Paul for interest and he immediately said "that one looks a works car". He checked and found it took part in the 1964 Monte, driven by Rauno Aaltonen and finished 7th overall. Strange to think it took 35 years to discoDsc04306.jpg (16717 bytes)Dsc04305.jpg (13732 bytes)ver what I had seen and photographed.

The final two pictures were taken by me at a race meeting at Oulton Park at about the same time. The Wolseley Hornet has an interesting Irish reg no., and the Mini has "Coldwell Twin Cam" on the wing."

Grx5d-5.jpg (45176 bytes)These pictures of probably most well known works car GRX5D come courtesy of Marcel Chichak in Canada. They were taken just prior to the start of 1968 Shell 4000 rally in Calgary, Alberta. This was GRX5D's last rally as a works car. The first being the infamous 1966 Monte Carlo Rally where it was disqualified from 1st position, the rest they say is history. In fact it was disqualified from the Shell 4000, the car in Paddy Hopkirk's hands had led the event for three days before serious overheating problems intervened, the car was fitted with an auxiliary radiator, which brought about its disqualification. The car can now be seen in Tom Turkington's collection in Northern Ireland.

This picture taken in 1972 shows a Mini Cooper sandwiched between and Escort RS and one of the infamous works Cologne Capris followed by one of the privately run "Kent" Capris. The picture was taken at Silverstone (Copse Corner) during the Tourist Trophy Race, which in those years was a round of the European Touring Car Championship. The Mini was a regular competitor in the British Touring Car Championship. The two capris went onto finish 1st and 2nd. More information on the ETCC can be found at http://etcc-history.it4us.nl/

From John Morrow in Seattle, he says "Please find attached some nice photographs (as JPGs) of Tim Woods and myself on this year's Monte Carlo Historique rally in which we were part of the MCR/MiniWorld Cooper Car Co Team. A brilliant event despite our slightly lacklustre performance. "

You're not gonna believe this. On the unpublished pictures page, just above the photos of GRX5D that I gave you, is a picture of the Coldwell Twincam. I received a call tonight from a buddy who did an appraisal on a Vincent motorbike for a fellow. In the corner of the garage is a '32 Fiat racer (fully restored and apparently VERY pretty). The guy is a Brit who retired here about 3 years ago. His name is Jim Yates. Story goes that he designed the Coldwell Twincam head! The attached photo is just so very interesting. Even more, HE HAS THE DRAWINGS he did for the production!!
My buddy will introduce us and I will be sure to get together with him since he would probably be interested in the work I am doing in my garage with the Elder 8-port and fuel injection all setup on the dyno.
More soon. Can't wait can ya? :-) - Marcel Chichak.
