Removing crankshaft pulley (4 replies)
I need to replace the timing case oil seal on my mk3 cooper S. I cannot get a socket onto the pulley end nut because the radiator mounting bracket is in the way. Do I need to undo the engine mounting, jack up the engine slightly and then remove this radiator mounting bracket before I can undo this large nut?
You will have to remove the radiator. While youre at it, change the water pump and bypass hose...and maybe the fan belt....Good luck!
As Roli says and definitely the fan belt. The cost of a fan belt is insignificant compared to the hassle of replacing a broken one.
You will have to remove the rad because you wont be able to turn the lock tab over the pulley bolt. Check the engine mounting while youre at it.
Thanks Roli and Tony for your useful advice.
