Minis to Monte 2008

28th September - 4th October

1968 saw the last entry of BMC works minis on the Monte Carlo Rally. So 40 years on we propose to run another of our ‘Minis to Monte’ runs to recognise this landmark.

Preliminary research into the route is already underway and the good news is that it makes use of many roads not used before in previous ‘Minis to Monte’! Thanks to Paul Easter we now have the full detail of the 1968 route.

In 1968 the results for the works minis were, 3rd Ruano Aaltonen and Henry Liddon, 4th Tony Fall and Mike Wood, 5th Paddy Hopkirk and Ron Crellin and 55th Timo Makinen and Paul Easter.

UPDATE - 18th December 2008

The entry list is now full, with 30 cars. A reserve list has been opened. The Minis to Monte Website will be updated soon.

Regulations available here, please note we have a full entry regulations and an entry form will be sent to those who have a confirmed entry.

UPDATE

MINIS TO MONTE 2008 UPDATE

Entries for the 2008 Minis to Monte have been coming in rapidly and more than half of the 30 places are now taken. Unfortunately we have had to change the date of the event because the Monte Carlo Yacht Exhibition has blocked-booked all the hotels in the week we wanted to be there. So the new dates are Sunday 28th September to Saturday 4th October. We are sorry about this change, but we know from previous feedback that staying in Monte Carlo is important to entrants of Minis to Monte! Please let us know if you have already entered and the date change causes you problems

The route details remain the same as previously announced. We will start near Valence in the Rhône valley and use only the Common Route and Mountain Circuit of 1968. Overnight stops will be near Orange and Digne on the way down to Monte Carlo where one night will be spent. Cars will then wend their way back via classic stages such as the Col de Turini and the Col de Couillole to Castellane and then on to the finish back near Valence on Friday night, 1000 miles after leaving. The whole Common Route will be covered and almost all of the Mountain Circuit (and for the real enthusiast we will provide an option of doing the whole of that as well!)

The other arrangements will be similar to previous years: a tulip roadbook will be provided with route questions to keep you on the right track, together with information on points of interest and the 1968 event. Classic and New Minis are equally welcome; already entered are three cars that did the 1968 rally.
