| Message From MCR 祝辞 It is indeed an honor to be invited to write a "welcome" to all members of the new Japanese Region of the Mini Cooper Register. Over a number of years I was privileged to visit Japan 12 times and was impressed with your friendliness, politeness and dedication. So far I have not met any of your committee as I retired from Rover over 9 years ago and lost the chance to travel. Over 35 years ago I set up the BMC Special Tuning Department at Abingdon alongside the Competition Department. My role was to market all the parts that were fitted to works prepared cars and to prepare customers' cars to the same standard if requested. We also traveled to Service Halts on rallies with a big coach full of spares, welding equipment and service tools to help private owners to keep their cars going after arduous special stages on rough forest roads. At that time the Mini was the most competitive car being entered and was also the most popular car for private owners to start their rallying career. It is now over 35 years since the Mini started winning international events, but owner's enthusiasm is not diminishing. I am lucky enough to be joining a service crew on the Automobile Club de Monaco's Monte Classique this month, travelling from Reims in central France to Monte Carlo with ex-works classic Mini Cooper 977 ARX and 15 other Mini Coopers, which shows just how popular these cars are still, and keeps me in active contact. On one of my visits to Tokyo I brought with me a number of body panels for a very good Japanese friend who was rebuilding a Cooper, but at that time I did not realize how many enthusiastic owners there were in Japan, so I am very pleased that there will now be such a close association with the Mini Cooper Register in Great Britain. I do hope that one day I will be able to come back to Japan and join in one of your meetings, but meanwhile I wish you all a very successful 2001 launch and send my best wishes to your committee and all members. Wales MCRの新しい日本支部の会員の皆さんに向けて、歓迎の辞を書くようにとのご指名を頂戴し、大変光栄に存じます。 長年にわたり、都合12回の日本への招待訪問で、私は日本の皆さんの友情の深さと誠実さ、そしてその献身ぶりに深い感銘を受けました。 9年前にローバー社を退職して以来、日本を訪問する機会を失っておりましたので、今回の委員の皆さんには誰もお会いしたことがないですが、、、。 35年前、私はアビンドンの競技部門とともに、BMCスペシャルチューニング部門を設立しました。私に課せられた任務は、ワークス車両にフィットするあらゆる部品の製品化と、もし一般顧客が希望すれば、それと全く同じ仕様の車両を用意することでした。 また私達は、プライベート出場車両が、過酷なスペシャルステージや荒れた林道を走破した後のフォローをするために、大きな輸送車に部品や溶接装置、工具類を満載して、ラリーのサービスポイントを巡りました。 その時点においてミニは、出場する車両の中で最も競争力があり、また同時にこれからラリーを始めようというプライベーターにとって最もポピュラーな存在でした。 今やミニが国際イベントで勝利し始めて35年が経過しようとしていますが、オーナーたちの熱意は一向に衰えてはおりません。先月幸運にもモナコ自動車クラブ主催のモンテ・クラシックに、サービス・クルーとして参加できました。フランス中部のランスからモンテカルロまでを、元ワークス・ミニクーパー977ARXと他15台のミニクーパーで走破したのですが、方々で依然としてミニが高い人気を保っていることを再確認できました。 一度東京に訪れたとき、クーパーをリビルド中の日本人の親友のために、大量のボディパネルを持ち込んだことがありましたが、その時は、こんなに多くの熱狂的ファンが日本にいるとは思いもしませんでした。 いま、英国ミニクーパー・レジスターとこんなにも親密な関係が持てたことを大変嬉しく思います。 いつかまた日本を訪問して、皆さんのイベントのいずれかに参加したいと切に念じておりますが、委員と全会員の皆さんにとって、2001年が大成功の年となりますことを祈念致しております。 英国ミニクーパー・レジスター バジル・A・ウェールズ |
